Nuits-Saint-Georges
Located in eastern Burgundy, Nuit-Saint-Georges lends its name to the Côte de Nuits which rests within the northern part of the Côte d’Or expanse. Producing a vast majority of robust, Pinot Noir-driven wine, it does dedicate close to 5% of its productions efforts towards Chardonnay-based whites.
With close to 800 acres of premier cru vineyards, Nuit-Saint-Georges is the second largest of the Cote d’Or’s communes. In addition to the premier cru, another nearly 780 acres lies within the area and is dedicated to regional wine production. The town was awarded its own appellation in 1936; however, the vineyards have been pleasing wine lovers from local aficionados to royals and aristocrats for centuries with its variety of strong, assertive red wines.
Although Nuit-Saint-Georges does not include any grand cru vineyards within its borders, shed no tears - its 41 premier cru plots are some of the best and most sought after in Burgundy. Top Producers: Domaine Leroy, Domaine Robert Chevillon, Domaine Henri Gouges
