Mazoyeres-Chambertin

Located at the southern end of Gevrey-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertinis a grand cru vineyard dedicated entirely to Pinot Noir. With Charmes-Chambertin, it is based in the most shallow slops of Gevrey-Chambertin’s grand cru belt, giving the higher and more desirable sections to Le Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze.

While it does enjoy its own appellation, wines from this area can claim either Charmes-Chambertin or Mazoyères-Chambertin as its AOC. Much like Charmes-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin features soil of thin limestone that rests over a stony foundation, allowing for ample if not superior drainage.

The continental climate also provides the perfect environment for grapes to grow healthily without sacrificing or diminishing their acidity. Wines hailing from Mazoyères-Chambertin tend to be overlooked by more discerning oenophiles. What they may lack in finesse, however, is compensated by their strength, depth and structure.
