Chateau Leoville Las Cases

Once part of a larger estate that included Château Leoville-Barton and Château Leoville-Poyferré, Saint-Julien’s Château Leoville-Las Cases was separated from the others in 1840, around the time of the French Revolution. The nearly 240 acres has been most recently overseen by the Delon family, who also own Châteaux Potensac and Nènin, for five generations. The estate is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), followed by Merlot (19%), Cabernet Franc (13%) and Petit Verdot (3%). While it is famous for its bold, eponymous Grand Vin – a wine whose rich mineral character and intense tannins rivals many of its Pauillac peers – Château Leoville-Las Cases is also recognized as the first Bordeaux estate to introduce a second label, Clos du Marquis.
