Top Pinot Noir
In the continuing quest to find the best of varietal wines, Wine Searcher aggregated many critics' scores and have released a list of the top ten Pinot Noirs of the world. Few will be surprised that the list boasts wines from one tiny parcel of land: Burgundy's Cote d'Or. All the wines are single vineyard Grand Cru wines. Five of the wines are from vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, four from Vosne-Romanée, and one from the Musigny Grand Cru of Chambolle-Musigny. The list of producers is small too: Domaine Leroy dominates the list with six wines, and Domaine Rousseau and Domaine de la Romanée Conti split the remaining four. While Domaine Leroy's Chambertin Grand Cru takes the number one spot, Domaine de la Romanée Conti Romanée-Conti Grand Cru is close behind it, also receiving an aggregated score of 97 percent and is still the priciest wine in the world at more than twice Leroy's number one wine. Pinot Noir remains a grape that is put on a pedestal, which is reflected in its price. Those who buy premium wine and have had the divine experience of one of these wines can attest to why it is held in such high esteem!
