Merlot: Still a Favorite Fine Red Wine
Winesearcher aggregated both professional critic and the public’s Cellartracker ratings to determine the best Merlots in the world. Italy leads the pack, with eight of the ten slots. Of these, Tuscany was the leader with six wines—no surprise for a region making wines nicknamed Super Tuscans. Another Italian region in the showing was Friuli-Venezia. At number one was France’s Petrus, from Pomerol. At ten came the one American contribution, Jenata Fenix de Jenata Red, a Santa Ynez Valley Merlot. It is a wine from a sustainable winery that is growing in popularity yet (lucky us) not price.
