Penfolds Grange Purchase
What makes someone purchase fine wine to the tune of 50,000 dollars? The prestige of one of the original bottles of Penfolds Grange. The wine was first made in 1951 under the direction of Max Schubert and bottled as Penfolds Grange Hermitage. Only 2-3 barrels were made, making a remaining bottle hard to find. The unknown buyer coughed up 51, 750 AUD for the wine at an MW Wines auction. That would make a glass cost around 10,000 dollars, a pretty price to pay to taste a bit of history!
