Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a family-owned producer in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. It is famous for its excellence in Pinot Noir wine production from both grand cru and premier cru vineyards. The 12-acre domaine can trace its history to the 1930s, when Sylvain’s grandfather began making premium wines. His son and Sylvain’s father, André, ran the estate from 1969 through 1985. Although by that time Sylvain had become much more involved in the operation. For the next ten years, he rented the family’s vines via fermage agreements and made his own wines before taking over in 1995. Another ten years passed before his son Sebastien joined him in running the domaine in 2006 after training at Château Smith Haut Lafitte. They changed the name of the domaine to Domaine Sylvain Cathiard et Fils to represent the operation’s new vision. Among Sebastien’s first contributions were the construction of a new winery and cellars. Domaine Sylvain Cathiard et Fils works an impressive spectrum of vineyards, all located in prestige locations including Vosne-Romanée, Nuit-Saint-Georges and a section of land in Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The wines are energetic, with a unique purity and depth of flavor.
