ABOUT THE WINERY

Maison Roche de Bellene is the négociant of Burgundy winemaker Nicolas Potel, which complements his Domaine Roche de Bellene which produces wines from estate-owned vineyards. Founded in 2009, the focus of the Maison is on individual terroirs with old (40+ years) vines. Nicolas works exclusively with growers who subscribe to biodynamic viticulture so that he can realize his vision of producing unique, terroir-driven wines. Partnering with Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits growers, Potel produces an outstanding portfolio of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines using grapes from grand cru, premier cru and village sites. Together, they establish appropriate vineyard practices, crop reduction, harvest dates and fermentation regimes that best serve the grape. Among Potel’s best are wines from grand cru vineyards in Clos de la Roche, Clos de Vougeot, Montrachet and Chambertin. Additional premier cru wines are also produced using his cherished old vines (“vieilles vignes”). He named his Maison, and his domaine, after the Belenos, the Gallic god of sun and beauty.
