Nicolas Groffier, a fourth-generation winemaker and now director of the 17-acre Domaine Robert Groffier Père et Fils, has guided his family’s business into reaching the elite ranks of Burgundy producers. Based in the Moret-Saint-Denis commune, and with vineyard holdings in Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin, the domaine is focused on the ultimate in Pinot Noir wine. And with Nicolas’ determination to ensure purity and finesse from his wines, the objective is well within reach. With his detailed approach, Domaine Robert Groffier Père et Fils farms parcels of grand cru vineyards in Chambertin-Clos-de-Beze and Bonnes-Mares, and holds a choice plot of land in Chambolle-Musigny’s premier cru vineyard, Les Amoureuses. The last is particularly appropriate, as all Groffier wines are seductive, subtle and luxurious. With a dark red fruity clarity, they also present spice and underbrush, adding to the silkiness. Although the domaine has been in the Groffier family for over 150 years, it wasn’t until Robert Groffier steered the helm in the mid-1900s that the domaine began bottling its own products.
