Known for producing Musigny Grand Cru, the signature wine of Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier has been owned by the Mugnier family since the late 1800s. In addition to its holdings in Chamolle-Musigny, the estate also boasts of another ten hectares in Nuits-Saint-Georges. While experiencing a gap in actual winemaking during the latter 20th century, the family contracted its land out to other producers including Domaine Faiveley; however, the vineyards returned to the family’s control due toFrédéricMugnier’s determination to regain the estate’s autonomy. In tandem with Musigny Grand Cru, Domaine Mugnier produces a grand cru from Bonnes-Mares as well as two premier crus, Les Fuées and Les Amoureuses. From its Nuits-Saint-Georges vineyards, the estate produces both a red and white premier cru from the Clos de la Maréchale, a monopole of the domaine, and a Clos des Fourches premier cru. Domaine Jacques-FrédéricMugnier vineyards are gently cultivated. While not certified organic, the estate does not subscribe to the use herbicides or pesticides, and only treats for mildew twice a year. Due to this natural approach, the fruit, and subsequently the wine, is fragrant and light, with a long-lasting pleasure to the palate. The domaine’s dedication to keeping things pure and minimal has brought them wines of only the highest regard.
