ABOUT THE WINERY

Based in Burgundy’s noted Gevrey-Chambertin region on the Côte d’Or, Domaine Fourrier has been overseen by Jean-Marie Fourrier since 1994 when he took over from his father, Jean-Claude, after completing an internship with Henry Jayer. With new leadership came new ideas not only from Jean-Marie but also his sister Isabelle and his British wife, Victoria, both of whom help him run the estate thatspans nearly 9 hectares. The primary Fourrier offering is its elegant and smooth Pinot Noir made from the revered Clos Saint-Jacques premier cru vineyard. The domaine also has parcels in additional premier cru sites in Chambolle-Musigny, plus a smaller plot in the grand cru Griottes-Chambertin vineyard. Eschewing cloning, the estate is known for only using fruit from vines exceeding 30 years. It was Jean-Marie’s time with Henry Jayer that influenced him the most. Fastidious and meticulous in his winemaking approach, he embraces careful destemming and avoids pre-fermentation crushing in order to limit color and tannin extraction. Only natural yeasts are used, and wines are aged for almost two years in no more than 20% new oak. Finally, the product is bottled unfiltered and unfined. This immense attention to detail yieldswine of exceptional quality and refinement. Bright and silky, only the purest of fruit flavors dominate, delivering a unique and elegant fine wine experience.
