One of the top wines in the world, Château Cheval Blanc (“White Horse”), is one of only four Saint-Émilion estates which has earned the prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) classification. Located north of the Dordogne River and bordering on Pomerol in Bordeaux’s Right Bank, it is made up of nearly 97 acres divided into 45 plots, with Cabernet Franc and Merlot sharing nearly equal dominance. Due to the estate’s diverse soil of sand, clay and gravel, as well as the different ages of the vines, each plot is cultivated as if it were its own separate vineyard, with the final products carrying their own individual profiles. Grapes from clay soil possess more velvety tannins, while those from gravelly soil are more fragrant and refined. The blend brings the world an incomparably complex and elegant wine, with hints of dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate, tobacco and licorice. The Château is also unique in that it has experienced very few changes in ownership. This stability is reflected in its consistent performance as well as its long term vision.
