ABOUT THE WINERY

On Bordeaux’s Left Bank, close to the southern end of the Haut-Médoc , is where you will find the village of Margaux, where as many as 20 Grand Cru Classé estates call home, including Château du Tertre and Château Dauzac. But its jewel in the crown is Château Margaux, the highly treasured First Growth property ranked by the 1855 Classification. The quality of Margaux’s wines can be attributed to the diversity found in the region’s soil. This varied composition, which ranges from a thin layer of topsoil to more gravelly soils that support deep root growth and effective drainage, allows the region to produce an interesting and eclectic range of wines. From the fragrant, delicate harvests of Château Dauzac to the more complex, finessed wines of Château Margaux, the region offers medium to full-bodied fare, all famous for their perfumed bouquet, elegance, and sweet, silky texture. As is the case for most of the Left Bank, Cabernet Sauvignon is the leading varietal, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot blended in varying degrees. And, because of their superior aging potential, the wines of Margaux aren’t afraid of the process. On the contrary, they prove that some things really do improve with age!
