Volnay is often considered the "feminine" counterpart to neighboring Pommard. This picturesque village is located in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune and is renowned for producing Burgundy’s most delicate Pinot Noir. Known for its elegance, finesse, and aromatic complexity, Volnay is a favorite among Burgundy lovers.

Fast facts

Name: The name Volnay is derived from the God of water – Volen, and it was called Vollenay before its present name.

Location: Situated in the Côte de Beaune, between Pommard and Meursault, Volnay benefits from southeast-facing vineyards on the mid-slopes of the Côte d'Or escarpment.

Climate and Soil: The region's well-drained limestone soils and southeasterly exposure allow for perfect ripening conditions, producing wines that balance freshness with richness.

Grapes: Volnay’s wines are made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Although a small percentage of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris is permitted to accompany Pinot Noir in a blend, this is rarely practiced.

Let’s explore six extraordinary wines that showcase the best of what Volnay has to offer.
