Burgundy Leads Sales

Burgundy Leads Sales

by Westgarth Wines March 15, 2019

Sotheby’s, one of the leaders in selling fine wine, has relayed that their sales went from 64 million in 2017 to over 100 million in 2018. The leading sales were in Burgundy, with sales of Domaine Romanée-Conti fetching record heights. Liv-ex now lists 29 Burgundies in their Power 100 list of the most important wine brands. Behind Burgundy’s allure lies its relative scarcity. Bordeaux, while being prestige wine, has not shown similar growth although lower prices could create a new audience for it. Time will tell—an upcoming Hong Kong auction is predicted to be one of the most important of the year and it features—you got it—a lot of Burgundy.
