Warm and ripe, but with good winter rains leading in, the vintage has been defined in more recent years by its red-fruited energy and fully resolved tannic profile, without (in most cases) the alcohols being overblown. This 2018 Integro is a fine example of that statement, coming in at 14% alcohol. On the nose, there is leafy cassis, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, aniseed, licorice, black tea and mulberries. In the mouth, the wine performs exactly thus, shaped by a wall of ductile tannin. Give this a decant; the length of flavor tells us everything we need to know about its quality, and the characters are currently bound up in their youth. Give it the opportunity to stretch its legs, if you insist on drinking it as a young wine.
