Gaja Forges a New Path

“My father is a man who had to prove to the world that Barbaresco is at the level of Barolo,” says Gaia Gaja of her father Angelo.

“You can feel in his wines that he had to show the power our land can give. But we, my sister Rossana and I, are at a different stage, and we are different people.”

Gaja was in London for the launch of her latest vintages, which are wines that combine concentration and tension, structure and delicacy, in the way that is effectively a hallmark of great wine. Delicacy is one of the qualities she seeks in wine, and it has to go hand in hand with the perfectionism which her father has always pursued. “He has such attention to detail, he can transform everything in a project. It’s a life lesson.”
