St-Emilion Goes Green
St-Emilion has is taking the steps to make the fine wine you buy better for the world. Beginning in 2019 a wine labeled as St.-Emilion, St.-Emilion Grand Cru, Lussac St.-Emilion or Puisseguin St.-Emilion must be made from grapes farmed sustainably. The decision was made by the St.-Emilion Wine Council in order to shepherd the appellation, a UNESCO World Heritage site into a green future. With 45% of the wineries already adhering to sustainable farming there is work to be done. In the meantime any winery not up to snuff can still sell their wine but it must be labeled as generic Bordeaux.
