Burgundy’s Hospices de Beaune

Everyone from négociants to French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour came out to buy fine wine at this year’s Hospices de Beaune, a Burgundian tradition dating back to the 1850’s. 13 million dollars were raised, topping the record of the 2015 auction’s 11.7 million. The biggest sale was split between négociant house Maison Albert Bichot and an unknown Chinese investor. The prize in question? The “Pièce de Presidents, a traditional offering which this year consisted of two 228-liters of grand cru Corton Clos du Roi. The sales were managed by Cristie’s Auction House.
